The New Mills, Marple and District Rotary Club hosted its annual President’s Night on 5th April 2025, a long-standing tradition where the outgoing President celebrates the culmination of their term with a formal evening event. This year’s gathering was especially momentous, marking a historic milestone with the club’s first female President, Rita Pollard, leading the occasion.
Held at the picturesque Disley Golf Club, the event welcomed over 40 guests, including Rotarians, family members, and friends of the club. The evening began with welcome drinks, followed by a beautifully prepared three-course dinner. Entertainment was provided by renowned speaker Mark Llewellin, whose humorous reflections on the lives of Roy Barraclough and Les Dawson—beloved for their characters Cissie and Ada—delighted the audience.
The event was further distinguished by the attendance of special guests A. S. Venkatesh, Past Director of Rotary International, and Jean Billingsley, District Governor for Rotary District 1285, who both added significance to the evening.
A highlight of the night was the presentation of the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship Award to long-serving member Mike Coleman, in honour of his outstanding contributions to the Rotary over more than 20 years.
President Pollard’s tenure has been marked by innovation, inclusion, and community impact. The evening served not only as a celebration of Rotary tradition but also as a tribute to her inspiring leadership and the fresh initiatives introduced during her presidency.
It was truly a night to remember.
