The Rotary Club of New Mills, Marple and District marked a truly special occasion on 16 April 2026 at Marple Golf Club, celebrating both its President’s Night and 80th Charter Anniversary in a memorable evening of fellowship, reflection, and recognition.
The event was honoured by the presence of District Governor Edwin Partridge as Chief Guest, accompanied by Assistant Governor Mark Bailey, whose attendance added distinction and warmth to the celebrations.
President Edwin Gnanaprakasam welcomed guests and, in a heartfelt address, expressed his sincere gratitude to members for their unwavering support. Reflecting on his own journey, he spoke movingly about the significance of Rotary in his life and the enduring values of service, friendship, and community that the organisation represents.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Paul Harris Fellow Awards to three long-standing and dedicated Rotarians, Dr Chris Farnsworth, Dr John Delany, and Dr Fred Ferris. Each was recognised for decades of committed service to Rotary and to the wider community, truly embodying the spirit of “Service Above Self.”
In his address, District Governor Edwin Partridge spoke eloquently about the importance of Rotary and its lasting contribution to both individual lives and society. He also reflected on the significance of the club reaching its 80th year, commending its legacy of service and continued impact within the community.
The evening was further enlivened by a vibrant performance from the Ukrainian Band, whose music, singing, and dance captivated the audience and brought a joyful cultural flourish to the celebrations.
